FIRM HISTORY

Hulsing and Associates Architects has been providing quality architectural and engineering services to clients throughout the United States since 1974. Originally founded by Dennis R. Hulsing, AIA, in Dickinson, the firm expanded in 1979 by opening an office in Williston, ND. Mr. Hulsing later purchased the firm from Blake Zieske in Williston. In 1987, Mr. Hulsing and William Ellig, AIA, purchased Ritterbush Associates, the oldest practicing firm in the state of North Dakota, forming Ritterbush-Ellig-Hulsing, P.C. (REH). Mr. Hulsing also partnered with Aaron Swan, PE, of Aaron Swan Associates in 1987, combining their individual civil engineering and architectural firms and establishing SHP Engineering and Architecture. Offices for SHP were opened in Pierre, SD and Albuquerque, NM. Janet Prchal became a partner of Hulsing and Associates Architects in 1989. Ms. Prchal took over ownership in 2005.

CAPABILITIES & EXPERIENCE

Hulsing and Associates Architects, along with its four affiliate offices, have successfully completed over 2,500 projects in a wide variety of climates. Our firm has worked with various federal, public and private agencies requiring fixed time schedules and fixed budgets. The experienced design team is committed to the goal of giving clients a constant level of superior service. As the needs of our clients have increased, Hulsing and Associates Architects has expanded its capabilities to keep pace. We continue to broaden our skills to meet our client needs as technology advances and new methodologies are developed.

Our firm has outstanding experience and training in construction technology and value engineering, which translates to fewer problems during construction and structures that are easier to maintain. All offices are computerized and interconnected electronically through the Internet to share work and technical expertise. AutoCAD is used for design work and for preparation of construction documents.

The firm uses current technology in all phases of project production. It has been active in advancing “green” in building design, including sustainable design and LEED certification.

Every project is a unique series of problems to be resolved, often resulting in multiple solutions. At Hulsing and Associates Architects, we are committed to finding the best solution for our clients. Our personnel are continually attending professional development courses and workshops in order to bring new and innovative ideas to our clients. Our staff controls and checks the quality and accuracy of the work at each step of a project assignment.

PAST RECORD OF PERFORMANCE

Hulsing and Associates Architects has established a high standard of performance on past contracts, and will maintain that high standard for your project. Our affiliate firm, SHP Engineering and Architecture, was selected by the BIA as one of five firms in the Western Region to provide Architectural and Engineering Services for its Indefinite Quantity Contracts. Our many repeat clients show our dedication to their projects.

Cost control is a significant factor in all of our projects. Our firm works closely with the client to design the best project that fits the budget. Periodic cost estimates are assembled to keep the project on track. Local material suppliers and subcontractors are contacted for current construction costs to be used in preparing the cost estimates.
